Obituary

MADISON - Elaine Annette Gundlach passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare, surrounded by family. She was born on March 12, 1926, to Obert and Jennie (Tangen) Johnson.


Elaine was united in marriage to Samuel Gundlach on April 27, 1946. She worked for the commissioner of insurance for many years.


Elaine enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family. She loved family gatherings and making meals for the family.


Elaine is survived by her children, Diane Swalheim, Jean (Mitch) Tress, Alan Gundlach and Lori (Henry) Hanson; grandchildren, Heather Martinson, Ryan Swalheim, Hilary Tress, Andy Gundlach, Jeni Knuteson, Jeremy Gundlach and Nicole Braden, Jameson Hanson and Shayna Goetsch; and 15 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; parents, Obert and Jennie Johnson; sons, Richard and Ronald; granddaughter, Kristen Tress; and sister, Shirley Natvig.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
