WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. - Paula Marie Hansen, age 74, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at UW Hospital.


Paula was born on April 20, 1949, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Nicholas and Marie (Chiarulli) Martino. She married Karl Hansen on June 8, 1985, in Valley Stream, N.Y. Paula graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in Valley Stream in 1967. She received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY of Cortland and went on to receive her master’s degree at Penn State University. She was a teacher and guidance counselor at schools in Boston, Mass., and then a special education teacher in Long Island, N.Y.


Paula loved animals - fostering, adopting, and spoiling numerous dogs throughout her life. She was an avid New York Yankees fan, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren who were her greatest sources of joy.


Paula is survived by her husband, Karl; son, Kyle; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Hansen; grandchildren, Lyla Hansen and Isaac Hansen; and brother, Joseph Martino. She was preceded in death by her parents.


In lieu of flowers, memorials to a local animal rescue organization in Paula's memory would be appreciated by the family.

My sincere condolences. Our family lived next door to Paula and family on buscher ave. We all grew up together. The martinos, the Mendelson’s, the liebermans and us the kaplans. We spent Christmas at nick and Marie’s with Paula’s grandmother. We all got dogs at the same time. If memory serves me her dog was tiger a little terrier. Joey, so sorry. Barry kaplan

I was lucky to have worked with Paula at Valley Stream South High School. What a kind and caring lady. I know how much her family ment to her and how much joy her grandbabies brought her. My deepest condolences. She is greatly missed.

Paula and I met at Cortland; we pledged our sorority in 1968. We got our ears pierced together! So many other memories of those precious years. Reconnecting on LI was such fun, as if no time had passed, and we hoped that would continue in Florida. Rest in peace, sweet friend, you will be missed. My condolences to all in Paula’s family

Dear Karl, Kyle, Rebecca, and family, I’m so sorry to hear of Paula’s passing. She was a lovely lady that I will certainly miss. I knew her from Esplanade in Tampa and was fortunate enough to spend some time teaching her pickleball. She had a positive “can-do” attitude that wouldn’t quit. I’ll never forget seeing the joy on her face when she won her first doubles match.I enjoyed listening to her talk about her family and the love she had for all of you. And the way she talked about her dogs, you could tell how much she loved animals. I am honored to make a donation to our local animal rescue in Paula’s name. God bless you all and grant you peace.
