WAUNAKEE - Lorraine A. Volkman, age 95, of Waunakee, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at home. She was born on March 24, 1929, in Mount Horeb, the daughter of Selmer and Cordelia (Brannan) Moen.


Lorraine graduated from Central High School in Madison. She married Delbert “Del” Volkman in 1950. Lorraine worked as an administrative assistant for Wisconsin DOT, retiring in 1994.


Lorraine cherished time spent with family and friends, always finding joy in their company. She loved relaxing at the family cottage on Lake Wisconsin, traveling to new places, flower gardening, and sharing her passion for baking. She will be fondly remembered for her warmth in the kitchen and the delicious meals and treats she lovingly made.


Lorraine is survived by her four children, Gary (Pamela) Volkman, Dale Volkman, Teri (Edward) Hahn and Lynn (Robert) Sadler; eight grandchildren, Mari (Scott) Zimmerman, Todd (Angie) Volkman, Bobby Fries, Jason (Randi Duren) Sadler, Samantha (Bobby Phillips) Sadler, William (Sarah Pugh) Hahn, Lindsey Sadler and Nick Hahn; 12 great-grandchildren, Ariana, Emma, Andrew, Chesney, Dell, Gracin, Mayson, Lyniah, Tyaire, Paisley, Rhett and Legacy; and brother, Norman (Yvonne) Moen.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Del; parents; twin granddaughters, Julie and Jenny Sadler; two brothers, Orville Moen and Earl Moen; and two sisters, Lucille Hageberg and Edna Scott.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

My condolences to Lorraine’s entire family. She was a great lady and raised a wonderful family. Her spirit lives on in all of you. I am so sorry I will miss her service in person as I am on the southern coast of Texas. I’m so happy I was able to see Lorraine, Gary and Teri for lunch last fall. So very sorry for your loss! I was hoping to get to the funeral home but didn't make it. My mother Fern Dinga and I enjoyed lunches with your mother. They were few and far between but informative. Your mother's memory was amazing and I appreciate learning about my mother's ancestry. Your mother will always have a special place in my heart.
