Saying goodbye, going away

Seems like goodbye’s such a hard thing to say

Touching a hand, wondering why

It’s time for saying goodbye

Saying goodbye, why is it sad?

Makes us remember the good times we’ve had

Much more to say, foolish to try

It’s time for saying goodbye

Don’t want to leave, but we both know

Sometime’s its better to go

Somehow I know, we’ll meet again

Not sure quite where, and I don’t know just when

You’re in my heart, so until then

Wanna smile, wanna cry

Saying goodbye

Ellen, Ann & Katy, I am so sorry to hear about John. What a beautiful obituary. I only knew him later in life as a relative on the periphery when, as you know, my son Danny married Ellen. My husband Pete & I spent a few memorable Thanksgivings & Christmases at his home. It’s always a challenge to get the whole family together at the holidays and John always graciously offered his home. Thank you for giving me those memories John.🥰 I would go frequently to visit Danny and Ellen in Naperville and because John & I both lived in Middleton, I was often the designated delivery person for Girl Scout cookies, forgotten items, or just things Ellen wanted to share with her dad. With each of these deliveries, John always graciously invited me in for a cup of coffee and conversation. One time during Covid, I brought him some chocolate chip cookies at Thanksgiving. From his response you would have thought they were gold nuggets. Makes me tear up just thinking about it. John was a wonderful father and grandfather as well as an intelligent and interesting person and I will sorely miss him.

Ellen, Ann and Katy, I'm so sorry to hear that John passed. Though we aren't really related, he always felt like a father-in-law to me. I was very happy to count him as part of my family. He brought a bright, funny, genuine presence to any family gathering he attended. When he heard that I got married a few years ago, he sent me a handwritten note on a piece of scrap paper. It said, "Just to let you know, you are now part of J.C. Secret. An extra 'fiver' thrown in since I make my own cards. The girls don't mind. Congratulations." I still don't know what J.C. Secret is, but I'm very happy that I got to be a part of it. :) John will be missed and never forgotten in this house. Love, Megan

I was saddened to learn of John’s passing. I worked with him at OM and always found him to be a super friendly and nice guy; we shared many laughs. My wife also worked in the purchasing department with John. I posted the notice of his passing in the Oscar Mayer Madison Facebook page and there are lots of comments echoing him as a well liked coworker. RIP old friend. Side note: John guided my wife and I to a home builder when we built in 1990 and still reside. Thanx for the tip old buddy.
