Obituary

STOUGHTON - Marcia Lee Trentz, age 85, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024. The daughter of LaVern and Evelyn Graves, Marcia was born in Fennimore, Wis., on Feb. 20, 1939. The family later moved to Platteville, Wis., where she went through school and graduated from what is now called the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in biological science and physical education.

After graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Trentz. She taught for several years and then when Paul's job as Industrial Engineer for Oscar Mayer meant getting transferred around, she stayed home to raise their two boys. During their stay in Beardstown, Ill., she was the Adult Education Coordinator for the school district when their sons were in high school.

Marcia was a faithful member of Covenant Lutheran Church and an active member of PEO and Entre Nous. Reading and playing bridge were perhaps her favorite pastimes.

Marcia is survived by her sons, Jason (Jill) of Urbana, Ill., and Scott (Carla) of Marshfield, Wis.; her granddaughter, Mannon (Corey) Lilly; great-granddaughter, Margo Lilly; step-grandchildren, Megan VanWaus and Aaron Simmer; sisters, Beverley (Don) Langkamp of Texas and Jane (Ron) Johnsen of Des Moines; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-granddaughter, Molly Simmer; and the man she adored, her husband, Paul.

A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held at COVENANT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1525 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with Pastor Wendy Moen presiding. A visitation will be held at church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

I was sad to hear that my dear PEO sister passed away. We moved to Stoughton at the same time and met through PEO right away, it was an instant friendship. As time went on, we both joined many organizations together. PEO was the one, but Garden Club, Entre Nous and Bridge all became important in our lives also, and we were together several times a month plus many cozy visits in between. We also played Bridge as a couple now and then, and belonged to the same marathon etc. Marcia did so much in every organization, but where we had the most fun was when we were getting ready for the annual St. Vini Style Show. She was my top model, so elegant with a gracious walk, a terrific figure and that dear smile. In later years I was her Bridge partner and we would work around Paul's schedule. I was honored to be chosen to help with communion at Paul's funeral. We always compared our great Vini bargains, sat through so many meetings, helped run events of all kinds. Her beautiful home was a great venue for PEO fundraisers and we all enjoyed eating off her beautiful dishes. I could go on and on, but it is hard to type with so many tears in my eyes. I thank God for the many good years we shared and extend my deepest sympathy to her sons and granddaughter. Ho she loved you and lately the baby. Glad she got to see her. In sympathy and love, Karin Campbell

My sympathy to all of the family. Jason and Scott, I have so many warm memories of times with your parents when all of us were in Beardstown. Whether it was at our pool, at your house for a wonderful meal, playing Bridge or just visiting, we were always laughing and having a good time. Great memories!!!
