Joanne C Kaioula

MADISON - Joanne Carol Kaioula, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at home. She was born on Dec. 22, 1937, in Bloomington, Wis., the daughter of William and Dorothy (Sudmeier) Horsfall.

Joanne married David Kaioula on June 30, 1957, in Dodgeville, Wis. She worked and managed A&W Root Beer stand on Park Street for 20 years. She then was employed as a claims adjuster for WPS, retiring in 2003.

Joanne raised three generation of kids, her siblings, her own children and her grandchildren. She enjoyed picnics, luaus and watching her kids play softball. She loved Hawaiian music, the Hawaiian culture and was well known for her Hawaiian riblets. She loved going to parks, especially Henry Villas Zoo.

Joanne is survived by her five sons and daughter, John (Deborah) Kaioula, Bill (Kira Craine) Kaioula, Greg (Linda Lawler) Kaioula, Darrell (Staci and Valorie) Kaioula, Nelson Kaioula and Leilani (Jason) Kaioula; brother, Ed (Judy) Horsfall; sister, Joyce (Harold) Taylor; half-brother, William (Michelle) Horsfall; 13 grandchildren, David Kaioula, Mathew Kaioula, Trisha Roehling, Kashelle Kaioula, Alicia Kaioula, Jacob Kaioula, Kenneth Erickson, Michael Erickson, Kiana Miilu, Kehaulani Kaioula, Dylan Kaioula, Joanne “JoJo” Kaioula and Lucy Quam; great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; grandchild, Kealoha Kaioula; brothers, Rodger (Donna Gehrke) and Leonard (Donna) Horsfall; sister, Madonna Horsfall; and stepmother, Arlene Horsfall.

A funeral Service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, with Eld. Gina Keolanui presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
