MADISON - Mark Allen Amato, age 62, of Madison, passed away after a short battle with lung cancer on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, surrounded by family at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on April 16, 1961, in Madison, Wis., the son of Joseph Amato, Jr. and Janet (Thiers) Gandolph.
If you knew Mark you knew he was funny, kind and hard working. Mark grew up on Lake Waubesa and graduated from Oregon High School in 1979. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from the State of Wisconsin after a long tenure as a prep cook and food service worker for many of the dorms at the University.
In his free time, Mark liked following sports - he loved the Badgers, the Packers and was an avid Cubs fan, GO CUBS GO! He enjoyed bowling and was in the 300 club and also enjoyed going to the casino playing the lottery hoping to hit it BIG. He loved fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Staci Amato; sisters, JoEllen Amato-Tuck and Alicia Amato; his girlfriend, Jane Zuelsdorf; and numerous other family members who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family will be contacted for a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
