DEERFIELD / COTTAGE GROVE - Rosemary C. Kurt, age 85, of Deerfield, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on July 27, 1938, in the Town of Vienna, Wis., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Spahn) Kalscheuer.
Rosemary graduated from Waunakee High School in 1956. She met her future husband at a Fourth of July celebration in the Village of Dane in 1955 and on Sept. 1, 1959, she married Silvin Kurt at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee, Wis.
Rosemary was a lifelong dairy farmer. She enjoyed working on the family farm, feeding the calves and handling all the bookwork. She also worked for the Deer-Grove Veterinary Clinic for many years. She will be remembered as a good cook, always having treats in the house for anyone who stopped by. Rosemary was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since 1971.
Rosemary is survived by husband, Silvin; children, David (Laura) Kurt, Susan (Gregg) Madsen, Dale Kurt and Douglas (Tracy) Kurt; grandchildren, Amanda Wilke, Bryanna Handel, Jaiden Kurt, Maurice Kurt, Justin Madsen, Michelle Shea, Tyler Kurt, Megan Kurt-Loeffelholz, Hannah Kurt and Caleb Kurt; 13 great-grandchildren with three more due this summer; two sisters, Annabelle Bowar and Shirley Statz; and sisters-in-law, Theresa Kalscheuer and Jeanette Kurt. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gilbert and Kenneth; sister, Beatrice Bollig; in-laws, Carl J. and Catherine Kurt; brother-in-law, Carl “Andy” Kurt; and sister-in-law, Dolores (Paul) Moen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 434 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, with Father Chad Droessler presiding. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
