Obituary
MADISON - Leon Oscar Orvold, age 87, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 27, 1936, in Madison, Wis., the son of Oscar Orvold and Hilda (Olson) Orvold.
Leon graduated from Madison East High School in 1954, and went on to receive his associate degree from Madison Business College. A U.S. Army veteran, he married Joanne (Crary) Orvold on April 2, 1960.
Leon worked as a system analyst for Cuna Mutual, retiring in 1992. After retiring, Leon and Joanne enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV, taking trips with friends, their children and grandchildren. Leon enjoyed all Wisconsin sports, especially the Badgers.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Todd Waitrovich) Orvold; son, Jon (Sheryl) Orvold; granddaughters, Monica (Eric) Weaver, Megan (Cory Scheider) Orvold and Amber Karow; grandson, Brandon Karow; great-grandson, Callahan Weaver; many nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joanne Orvold; son, Eric Orvold; and sisters, Lorraine Bauer and Janice Hehn.
A funeral service will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Highway AB, McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, with Beth Schultz-Byrnes presiding. Burial will be held at Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
The family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare, especially Becky, Megan and Michelle, for all the wonderful care Leon received. Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
