Gerald Gordon McDougall

MADISON - Gerald "Gerry" McDougall, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at Madison Pointe Senior Care. He was born on March 21, 1935, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Angus McDougall and May Piper.

Gerry first started playing football in high school at Long Beach Polytechnic and from there he won a scholarship to play at UCLA. His professional career started with him playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as running back. He was named a CFL Eastern All-Star for 1957 and 1958 and was a part of the Grey cup championship Tiger-Cats team in 1957 and 1965. His career took him to San Diego to play in the AFL for the Chargers from 1962-1964. He was the starting fullback when the Chargers won the AFL championship in 1963. His professional football career spanned from 1957-1967.

After football Gerry owned and operated a number of businesses until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed golf and remained very active throughout most of his life.

Gerry is survived by his son, Mark (Lorraine) McDougall; daughter, Colette McDougall; and two grandchildren, Ian McDougall and Lenna McDougall. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY'S OF PINE BLUFF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3673 County Road P, Cross Plains, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Burial will be held at St. Mary's of Pine Bluff Catholic Cemetery.
