Obituary

MADISON - Maribel Maloney, age 93, died on March 4, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis. She was born on June 8, 1930, in South Bend, Ind., to Sharman and Gertrude Goodland. She had been a Madison area resident since 1952.


Her family moved from South Bend to Stevens Point, Wis., in 1946, where she graduated from high school. Maribel attended Stevens Point College and worked for Sentry Insurance until she moved to Madison in 1952. She was employed by First Wisconsin National Bank until her marriage to Thomas Maloney of Madison on Oct. 27, 1956. They lived in Sun Prairie, Wis., where she and her husband were charter members of Sun Prairie Civic Theater. They were also leaders for several years of a newly organized urban 4H Club. In 1986, she moved to Middleton, Wis., and was employed in the Trust Division of US Bank until 1996. In 2007, she moved to Monona, Wis.


Survivors include daughters, Erin Kuehn-Schettler (Dan) of Fitchburg, Wis., and Kathleen (Jeff) Morstad of McFarland, Wis.; as well as sons, Brian (partner, Leslie) Maloney of Richmond, Va., and Kelly Maloney of Louisville, Ky. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Lauren (Brian) Toth, Caitlin Kuehn, Meaghan Kuehn, Chase Maloney and Alex Maloney and four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roger (Alice) Goodland of Fort Wayne, Ind.


She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, parents, two sisters, a brother and a great- grandchild, Carter Wheaton Toth. She was the great-niece of former Governor Walter S. Goodland.


Per her wishes, there will be a private celebration of life at a later date.
