Gertrude I. Herron, a beacon of kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on Jan. 31, 2024, at the age of 81, in Madison, Wis. She was born on Jan. 17, 1943, in Taunton, Mass., the daughter of Floyd H. and Doris L. Moses.
Gertrude's early years in Taunton laid the foundation for a life full of love and service. She carried the warmth of her hometown with her when she moved to Madison, where she would eventually make a significant impact as a social worker. For over two decades, Gertrude worked tirelessly at Central Wisconsin Center, advocating for the well-being of countless individuals. Her commitment to her profession was matched only by her compassion for those she served.
Those who knew Gertrude will recall her friendly nature and her passion for life's simple pleasures. She found joy in day trips to casinos, where her laughter was a lucky charm to all around her. Gertrude enjoyed crocheting and crafting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic spirit. Playing cards with friends and family was another favorite pastime, filled with friendly competition and camaraderie.
She is survived by her former husband, Jon G. Grefsheim; daughter, Jamie Nelis; cherished grandchildren, Angel, Maria, Johnny and Anthoney Grefsheim; sister, Cherie Aguiar; former brother-in-law, Peter Grefsheim; stepson, Russ Herron; and special friends, Tyler and Jenna Reed. Gertrude's legacy is also marked by the absence of her beloved husband, Terry Herron; son, Howard G. Grefsheim; parents, Floyd H. and Doris L. Moses; and her sister, Jeanette, who all preceded her in death.
