As I was always a "perpetually beginner sailor" and member of the Lake Monona Sailing Club, I go to know John as a generous, welcoming, enthusiastic leader of the club. He was a steady favorable wind. What a man!

I am so saddened to hear of John's passing. We had our BHS Class of '68 55th reunion in Bettendorf, Iowa last July, and I wasn't able to attend. However, I was able to reconnect with John through email last summer, and we shared our stories of sailing on the Mississippi with the Lake Davenport Sailing Club. John was not only a natural athlete but such a man of grace with strong leadership skills. His life well lived with his family is his legacy. John will always be one of those special friends from high school. My deepest sympathies to his family.

One of the few guys I hung with back in high school. Remember going sailing in Wisconsin in the c scow because I was light and kept the weight limit under. Drank beers with no fears then. He would smuggle coors from Colorado every now and then. Good memories R.I.P. BOB REYNOLDS
