Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Marlus D. Wohlers, age 88, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1935, in Graceville, Minn., the son of Marvin Wohlers and Veronica (Kruger) Wohlers.

Marlus grew up on farms in Western Minnesota and graduated from Graceville High School.  He participated in baseball, basketball and football, (his football team was undefeated all four years).

Marlus was united in marriage to Donna Cronen on June 2, 1956, in Graceville. He farmed until 1968 when they moved to Cottage Grove, Wis., to begin working in the heating and air conditioning field. In 1991, he started Wohlers Heating and AC Corp in Cottage Grove. Marlus was a member of the Growers Advisory Committee and helped to give direction to the newly formed Farmer’s Market on the Capital Square. For almost 20 years he sold many varieties of honey at the Farmer’s Market and many other markets.

Marlus was a very kind and compassionate man who lovingly cared for Donna for many years as she lived with Alzheimer’s disease.

Marlus enjoyed hunting but loved fishing and took annual fishing trips to Canada with his son and brother, Jerry. He and Donna were snowbirds spending winters in Arizona. He took up shuffle boarding and participated in the Senior Olympics and won many gold medals with his doubles partner from Iowa, Bob Rinehart. He was also an avid Brewers fan and loved western hats.

Deb, Wanted to tell you how sad I was to read of your Dad's passing. I will never forget all the many hours we spent together at Clarebridge doing our best to help Donna and Eva enjoy their lives while living with Alzheimer's. His was a life well lived as a generous and caring man who cared deeply for his wife and family with an amazing loyalty and steadfastness to go see Donna everyday while she needed him the most. I always enjoyed his tales of beekeeping, growing up in Minnesota, his fishing trips up North and starting up his A/C business. Peace to your family as you lay your wonderful dad to rest. Rest in peace, Marlus, Holly Hill-Putnam

I played football with marlus and his brother melvin. I spent time with them at their farm near johnson, mn., hunting rabbits at night, pheasants in the fall. He was one of the best running backs graceville shamrocks had. He was a great guy and the last time I saw him was at our high school reunion about 10 years. ago.
