Obituary
MCFARLAND - Nancy Marie Young, age 85, of Portage and recently McFarland, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024. She was born on July 15, 1938, in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of Eugene Young and Anita (Kleist) Patten.
Nancy graduated from Portage High School in 1956. After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis where she attended vocational college and worked briefly. After returning to Madison to be closer to her family, she went to work for National Mutual Benefit Insurance Company, where her career spanned over 30 years and where she worked as a supervisor for her department.
Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, creating many happy memories rowing, swimming and ice skating with them on Silver Lake in Portage over the years. Nancy was always well-dressed whenever she left home. She enjoyed cheering for the Green Bay Packers and had a strong love for flowers, fashion, music and movies. Her niece and nephews have many fond memories of Nancy taking them to get popcorn from a stand in Portage, picking berries in the surrounding area and escorting them to some of their first concerts.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Ron (Joy Morse) Patten; niece, Camala (Jeff Frankenfield) Kolseth; and three nephews, Brent Kolseth, David Patten and Michael Patten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Anita; and sister, Phyllis (Roger) Kolseth.
A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Portage, Wis.
