Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE - Gregory Allen Newton, age 66, of Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare.
Greg was born on July 23, 1957, in Madison, the son of Merton and Marilyn (King) Newton.
He graduated from East High School in 1975. Greg spent most of his career working as a forklift operator for Bancroft Dairy/Morningstar Foods, retiring in 2021. He and Mary Caravello were married at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas in 2003.
Greg’s family was very important to him. He and Mary loved attending their grandchildren’s sporting events, and Greg always had a camera in hand to capture the special moments. Greg and Mary also enjoyed traveling, often with Mary’s sisters and their spouses. They took several trips over the years, with one of his favorite destinations being Las Vegas. After moving to their condominium, Greg enjoyed the sense of community he found with his neighbors, and he cherished the many fun times they shared together. He was always on the lookout for the next fancy “gadget” and loved sharing them with everyone he knew. Coin collecting was also a passion of his and he often gifted special coins to those close to him. Greg’s life wouldn’t have been complete without his special pets Finn (dog), Bella (cat) and Zippy (gecko) by his side.
Greg is survived by his daughter, Toni (Rick) Cruz; sons, Brian (Susan) Caravello and Jon (Jessie) Newton; three grandsons, Teige Cruz, Tommy Faulkner and Aaron Newton; three granddaughters, Mya and Lauren Caravello and Lizzy Newton; two great-granddaughters, Daylin and Willow Faulkner; and brother, Robert (Bonnie) Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael; wife, Mary; and granddaughter, Hayley.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his friend, Anne, and the “hood” for all the help and companionship they provided. They’d also like to thank the UW Carbone Cancer Center staff for their care during Greg’s illness. Finally, many thanks to Agrace HospiceCare for their care and support during Greg’s final days.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
