Gary David Ausman

Gary David Ausman

December 24, 1955 - January 09, 2024

Obituary

Verona - Gary David Ausman, a loving husband, father, brother and friend passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly, at 68, on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024. Born on Dec. 24, 1955, in Merrill, Wis., he was the son of Irving Ausman and Helen Feldman.

He graduated from UW-Madison and deeply enjoyed a career as a managing director. In this position, Gary nurtured others through a passion for personal development, created meaningful relationships, and found ways to magically go above and beyond for all. Outside the executive suite, his passion was his family. Whether it was travel (especially Disney World), spending time at the Happy Forest cabin or just a game of cribbage, his world revolved around his loved ones. Gary had a unique and genuine desire to connect with others, which meant he never met a stranger.

Gary lived by and inspired others with his three life principles: take pride and put your signature on everything you do; have gratitude; and make somebody else’s day better.

He is survived by his forever loving and devoted wife, Kerry; cherished daughters, Jessica “Jessi” Ausman, Katherine “Katie” Ausman and Alexandra “Lexi” Ausman; sisters, Judith Jellinek and Barbara (Eric) Killen; brothers, Dennis (Minty) Ausman and Richard (Sara) Ausman; nephew who was like a son, Matthew (Christine) Ausman; as well as parents-in-law, Jim and Jane Fox; and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces who called him "Pee Paw," all of whom he cared for dearly. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Linda Isaacs; his brother, Allan Ausman (Joanne); and brother-in-law, Frank Jellinek.

A funeral service will be held at BLACKHAWK CHURCH, 9620 Brader Way, Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Gary’s honor to The Badger Herald (badgerherald.com/donate), a UW nonprofit campus newspaper.

I worked for Gary for many years and he’s the greatest manager I’ve ever had. He was always positive… always uplifting. He cared dearly about his people and our clients and he was always motivated by helping others. His jokes before client events were remembered by everyone — he always knew how to have a good time. But what I loved most about Gary was his passion for life and his passion for his family. He ‘bragged’ about them any chance he could and his infectious attitude has helped to make me a better business person, but more importantly, a better husband, and a better father. Gary will be missed by an unbelievable number of people. RIP my friend. While it came far too soon, I have no doubt that you’re the life of the party in this next journey, as well. Love and Respect, — Ryan Moeller

There are many people you encounter in life who play a momentary role and then fade away into obscurity. Gary was the opposite of that. Regardless of the time he was part of your life, you never really felt he faded away. His impact to everyone was due to the incredible way he made people feel and how he left everyone happy to have met him. I can think of no greater testament to our time on this earth than the ability to make people feel good and to truly appreciate your partnership. Taken too young, but not before making an incredible impact. RIP

Gary was a Leader's Leader. He was so approachable with an inate willingness to help. He wasn't even my manager and I knew, and did, seek his counsel. I emulate him now as I assume leadership roles professionally and personally. A great man and as others have said, taken too young. You will be missed my friend.

Gary was that rare sole who we were all so lucky to work with and get to know. As a salesperson he didn’t sell a product or service, he sold ideals, ideals that he believed passionately in. Several years ago when on a business trip to Chicago on my own, he invited me up to his apartment for a drink and to hang out with his family. I will never forget the gesture and his genuine kindness. Our condolences to the entire family. Jon Berger

Our deepest sympathies to the Ausman family on Gary's sudden passing. Lexi is a cherished former piano student of mine, & the Ausmans opened their home to my entire piano studio for piano recitals; Gary (along w/his family) attended to every detail, asked about our interests in music, & made sure we felt welcomed & special. Knowing him (& his family) has been a privilege; his memory is a blessing! Strength to you all ~ Tom & Dianne Totten

Gary was such a positive light in the world. His energy and enthusiasm for his family and work were contagious. I will always be grateful to him for taking a chance on me and teaching me not only work lessons but life lessons. He made everyone around him “warm and fuzzy”. He will be dearly missed.
