CHICAGO - Helen Eugenia Wozniak, age 92, of Chicago, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Attic Angel Health Center in Middleton, WI. She was born on April 9, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Michael and Wanda (Warchal) Wozniak.

Helen graduated from Tuley High School in 1950, she received her B.A. from DePaul University and her Master in Education from Loyola University. Helen loved teaching and taught in the Chicago Public Schools including Cabrini-Green Elementary Schools and Portage Park Elementary School for 37 years. She treasured her time with students, friends, and fellow teachers. Some teachers became especially close friends who together enjoyed travel, books, movies, Lake Geneva summer vacations and lots of laughter.

Helen’s lifelong friendships with Helen Sobczac and Helen Pacion spanned over 80 years. All three Helens met while attending St. Fidelis Grammar School and were very close throughout their lives, celebrating family events, watching families grow, and talking most every day.

Helen loved her home and neighbors. Over 35 years of sharing daily life, becoming part of each others’ families, enjoying good food and conversation made their neighborhood very special to Helen. A warm thank you to her caregiver, Ewa, for the wonderful care of Helen and for extending her time in her home near family, friends, and neighbors.

At the center of Helen’s life was the love of her family. She was an especially adored Auntie and Great Aunt. Always a gracious entertainer and hostess, each child remembers special visits at Auntie’s house, feeling delightfully connected to Auntie while enjoying Chicago’s many restaurants, museums, zoos, and of course, Cubs games. Helen loved music, traveling, exploring the world, and was always ready for an adventure. Helen’s Catholic faith was her guiding light. Helen had the gift of making every moment a celebration, she was always eager to hear about what was important to you, she was amazingly generous, encouraging, and always fun-loving.

Helen is survived by her brother, John L. Wozniak; niece, Carol (Jim) Wozniak-Rebhuhn, nephews, Michael Anthony (Nancy) Wozniak, and John (Lisa) Wozniak; great-nephews, Adam (Sarah) Rebhuhn, Austin (Jana) Wozniak, Nick (Kate) McGuire, Anthony Wozniak, Phillip (Kayla) Wozniak and Joe Wozniak; and great-nieces, Christine Rebhuhn and Allison Wozniak. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Wanda; brother, Stefan Wozniak; and sister-in-law, Sandra Sue Wozniak.

A funeral Mass will be held at VISITATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 779 S. York St., Elmhurst, Ill., at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, followed by a chapel ceremony at QUEEN OF HEAVEN CEMETERY, 1400 S.
