Obituary
MADISON - Anton “Tony” Kapolnek, age 92, of Madison Wis., passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. Tony was born on March 26, 1931, in Ernsthausen, Yugoslavia. He endured many hardships in post-World War II Europe and was separated from his family as a teenager. Eventually he was able to emigrate to the U.S. in the 1950s where he was reunited with his parents and sister.
Tony spent most of his life in Chicago. He loved spending time outdoors and tending to his flowers and garden. He was a great conversationalist and a kind soul. In his later years, he moved to Madison to be closer to family. He enjoyed his time at Brookdale, where he was able to socialize with fellow residents and staff and continue his love of gardening.
Tony is survived by his two nieces, Rosemarie (Randall) Mellenberger and Christine (Alex Alcocer) Tomas; and great-nephew, Paul Tomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Margaretha Kapolnek; sister, Katharina Tomas; and brother-in-law, Emmerich Tomas.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale and the staff of Agrace HospiceCare for all their care and support given to Tony. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare.
