Shaun Michael Mock

MIDDLETON - Shaun Michael Mock died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2023. He was just 53 years old.

Shaun was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on July 30th, 1970, to Jerald and Beverly (Freeman) Mock. In the early seventies, Jerry and Bev moved the Mock family to the west side of Madison, where Shaun attended the Verona Area School District. His love of hockey and natural talent led him to play at Edgewood High School, graduating as a Crusader in 1988.

After high school, he studied psychology briefly at Minnesota’s Bemidji State University but ultimately found his calling as a salesman. He worked in the building supply industry for over thirty years, with the majority spent proudly in outside sales at ABC Supply Company.

Shaun was joined in marriage to Mischelle (Wheeler) Mock on July 29th, 1995. Their fourteen cherished years together as husband and wife brought him his greatest joy- his children, Micayla and Alex. Later in life, he reunited with his high school crush, Angela Harper, and they married in 2017, joining their families together in one of the happiest times of their lives. Tragically, Angela passed away after a nine-month-long battle with breast cancer just fifteen months after they married. Through grief, he found love, comfort, and companionship in Dawn Strassman for the past five years.

Shaun had many hobbies and talents, including his love of NASCAR, coin collecting, candles, coaching, and watching thunderstorms roll in. He was an exceptional grillmaster who could be found in front of the coals, grilling the perfect steak, ready with a story to tell and a Coors Light in hand. Shaun found true happiness on the water, creating precious memories with his loved ones. From annual fishing trips “Up North” at Star Lake to cruising between Lakes Mendota and Monona, his legacy will continue to live on through the beautiful moments he shared with family and friends throughout the years.

Shaun leaves behind his children, Micayla and Alex; significant other, Dawn Strassman; father, Jerry; sister, Stacy Knoll; brother, Ryan (Theresa); brother-in-law, Mark Dingle; nieces and nephews, Meg (Jared Bilhorn) Knoll, Emily Knoll; Sierra, Ella, Jocelyn, and Kyle Mock; Samantha (Jake Hoffelder) and Drew Dingle; great-nephew, Iver Bilhorn; and great-niece, Iris Mock. Angela’s children and grandchildren further survive him, along with his Aunt Linda (Steve) Caselman; cousins, Wade (Jeanie Jo) and Cade Caselman, all of Salina, Kansas; and numerous important friends he’s kept through the years.

He was preceded in death by wives Mischelle (Wheeler) Mock and Angela Harper Mock; mother, Beverly; sister, Jody Dingle; and grandparents.

A visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the celebration of life at 12 noon on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024. Burial will follow immediately after at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona at 1:15 p.m.
