Obituary

MADISON - George Edward Jordan Jr., age 90, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept. 21, 1933, in Calumet City, Ill., the son of George Edward Jordan Sr. and Estelle Klimowski. He married the love of his life, Mildred Diane Launder, on June 29, 1957, at St. Raphael Cathedral in Madison, Wis. They were married for 66 dedicated years.


George served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at a number of bases throughout the U.S. beginning May 1, 1953, to July 31, 1957. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his honorable discharge he attended and graduated from Purdue University on June 5, 1960, with a diploma in Applied Technology - Electrical Technology. After his education he relocated back to Madison with Mildred and their first child, Deborah Lynn. He obtained a job with the Department of Transportation - Federal Aviation Administration working at Truax Field as an Electronic Technician. He made it his lifelong career, loving the challenge of a diverse work environment, enjoying friendships with colleagues for over 42 years. During his time with the FAA George received numerous awards. As he moved through the years he had two more daughters, Diana Jean and Donna Marie.


George enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and loving every moment with his granddaughters at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Door County, Florida Keys, Hawaii and Garmisch Resort. He enjoyed catching the largest fish each year on Lake Namakagon. He also loved having cookouts and spending time with family, sharing war and work stories and silly kids’ stories. He will also be remembered for his expertise in solving crossword puzzles, always having the correct answer at trivia, listening to classical music for hours at a time, going to concerts on the square, trying his luck at Ho-Chunk with Mark and learning how to use an iPad to play Angry Birds.


George is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughters, Deborah (Kathy) Jordan, Diana Kerr and Donna (Ralph) Kennedy; granddaughters, Hannah Kennedy, Kristina Kennedy and Katherine Kerr; and niece, Maxine (Jim) Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Eleanor Jordan.


A graveside service and military honors will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024.

Memorials may be gifted in George’s name to Agrace HospiceCare.
