Obituary
MADISON - Ronald John “Ron” Ruland, age 82 of Madison, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, in the presence of his loving wife, Virginia Nolden-Ruland. Ron was born on Oct. 4, 1941, the son of Lavern “Shorty” Ruland and Charlotte R. Bauhs-Ruland Ryerson at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Ron and Virginia were married 49 years ago this past September.
Ron graduated in 1960 from East High School in Madison. After high school he worked for a short time at Kuepfer Foundry alongside of his father. After that he worked for the Madison Parks Department before he became a City of Madison firefighter in 1965. After 30 years of service, he retired in 1995. During those 30 years he became a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Left behind to mourn his loss is his wife; son, Randy (Missy Dalton); granddaughter, Hailey Jo Ruland-Schmid (Garrett); grandson, Reed; great-granddaughter, Dawsyn Schmid; brothers, Richard and David; sisters, Nancy Ruland-Daane, Gloria Ruland-McMillen (Wade) and Audie Ryerson- Hundbusher (Bob); plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Ron will be welcomed into Heaven by his father, Lavern; stepmother, Theresa Porter-Ruland; mother, Charlotte; stepfather, Oliver S. Ryerson; stepmother, Gwendolyn Langer-Ryerson; brother, Donald John; son, Robert John; daughter, Doni Kay Ruland-Femrite; granddaughter, Taylor Femrite; sister, Bonnie Lee Ryerson-Standlie; aunt, Naomi Ruland-Sisserson; grandparents, Walter and Estella Hainstock-Ruland, and Leo and Ruth Helman-Bauhs; his father and mother-in-law, Oliver H. Nolden and Mabel I. Leister-Nolden; brother-in-law, John Nolden; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Nolden.
He is now at peace in the arms of our Creator.
A memorial service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
