Obituary

OREGON - Nikkol M. “Nikki” Schmid, age 81, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023. She was born on July 20, 1942, in Madison, the daughter of Norby and Etta Littel.


Nikki graduated from Madison Central High School. She was united in marriage to Marvin “Marv” Schmid on Feb. 24, 1962, in Madison. In her retirement she enjoyed knitting hundreds of baby hats for St. Mary’s Hospital. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.


Nikki enjoyed bowling, golfing and a good game of Snow Day poker. She was well known for her delicious spaghetti and meatballs, fried chicken and a good “stinky” salad.  


Nikki is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Marv; children, Kelly (Todd) Bavery, Kris (Randy) Engelberger and Joe (Sue) Schmid; grandchildren, Kara, Sam, Jenna, Devon, Erin, Jonah, Danny, Sienna, Sawyer and Anissa; great-grandchildren, Harvey, Lenora, Kenadi, Ryder and Dallas; siblings, Marsha (Tony) Pratt, Betty (Jerry) Swenson and David Littel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norby and Etta; in-laws, Harvey and Evelyn Frederickson.


A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023. A time of sharing will begin at 10:30 a.m. A private family committal service will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oregon.


The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Brandon and Nicole; and Katie and Jamie with Agrace HospiceCare for their kindness and compassionate care.
