Obituary
BROOKLYN - Wilfred Willard “Will” Wendt, age 85, of Brooklyn, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Kettle Park Senior Living in Stoughton. He was born on January 24, 1939, in Brooklyn, the son of William and Lena (Hodel) Wendt.
Will graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1957. He married Dorothy Gunnelson on August 15, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon, Wis. For their honeymoon, they traveled to Yellowstone National Park. Together they embraced the joys and challenges of farming life on the Wendt family dairy farm where he grew up and raised their four children. Will also drove school bus in the Brooklyn/Oregon School District for over 40 years.
Will enjoyed watching sports and was a huge Milwaukee Brewers fan. He bowled for several years in a bowling league in Oregon and was a former active member of the Lions Club for many years.
Will loved nature and was an avid outdoorsman belonging to Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, especially Lake Michigan fishing charters and Canadian fishing expeditions with several of his buddies, including his sons. In his later years his love of nature involved feeding the birds and planting sunflowers around his deck. He took great pride in planting native wildflowers and loved all of nature’s critters around the farmstead.
Will is survived by his children, Charlotte (Robert Gemmill) Wendt, Sandra (Bill Thorson) Wendt, and Scott (Susie) Wendt; grandchildren, Jennifer Wendt, Luke Ampe, Nicole (Chad) Klahn, Joshua Wendt, and Samantha Peschel; and great-granddaughter, Adalena.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Mae Wendt; son, Duane "Dewey" Wendt; brothers, Herbert (Violet) Wendt and Rodney (JoAnne) Wendt; and brother-in-law, Richard Gunnelson.
A celebration of life will be held at KETTLE PARK SENIOR LIVING, 2600 Jackson Street, Stoughton, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
