Obituary
DAVENPORT, Fla. / WESTFIELD, Wis. / MADISON, Wis. - Roger Ball formerly of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.
Roger was born in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 13, 1937. He spent the early years of his life living on the Eastside of Madison and in Michigamme, Mich. He graduated from Central High School in 1956. That is where he met the love of his life, Patti, who he married and had recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. He worked as a school custodian in the Madison Metro School District for over 35 years before retiring.
Roger is survived by his wife, Patricia (Ryan); daughter, Ginnell McDonald (Dennis); and son, Glenn Ball (Bonnie); four grandsons, Nicholas McDonald (Alisha), Brian Ball (Lacie), Kevin McDonald and Eric Ball (Mary); as well as five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Ball, Elliot Ball, Brody McDonald, lan McDonald and Ophelia Ball.
Family was important to Roger. He spent countless hours with his four grandsons, working on various projects, teaching them important as well as silly things about life. Roger shared his love of classic cars with them as well. He was so proud that each of them had a degree from college and instilled a bond between the four that lives on today.
After retirement Roger and Patti moved to a country setting outside Westfield where he enjoyed nature and the outdoors. They also spent lots of time traveling the U.S. in their motorhome. After a few winters in Westfield, they purchased a home near Davenport, Fla. Until last year they split time between these homes. In Florida they were close to Disney World and would spend many days enjoying the many attractions at the parks.
Roger liked listening and dancing to music. Mustang Sally was his favorite song. Many Friday nights were spent dancing to Gugel and Bisbee at Lake Windsor Country Club. Roger enjoyed bicycling his entire life and even rode his recumbent well into his 80s. Many of his favorite rides were on the scenic bike paths in Florida.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Burt Ball; mother, Lois Ball; stepmother, Bernice Ball; and sister, Nyla McCormick.
A celebration to honor Roger’s life will be held at NEW PERSPECTIVE SENIOR LIVING, 222 S. Bristol St., Sun Prairie, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024.
