Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Daniel “Dan” Pete, age 48, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023. He was born on Feb. 26, 1975, in Madison, Wis., the son of David and Shirley (Long) Pete.

Dan grew up in Madison and went to Lafollette high school. During that time, he met Nicole from the neighboring Monona Grove High School, and they instantly became friends. That friendship through the years turned into marriage and they were married Sept. 21, 2002.

Dan worked for InterCon Construction right out of high school at 18 years old and was in his 30th year with the company. Everyone who worked with him became family. He was also a member of Union 139 and the Killowatt Club.

Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, golf, his dogs, playing cards, shaking dice, and spending time with his family and friends. He was not one to sit still and was always on the go. Dan was very handy and could fix anything that you threw at him.

Those that knew him, knew he brought the “sunshine” wherever he went with his smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed by many.

Dan is survived by his wife, Nicole; two daughters, Bailey Pete and Charley Pete; parents, David and Shirley; brother, Tom (Tammi) Pete; sister, Stacy (Matt Bell) Pete; father-in-law, Ken (Jane) Bowers; two brothers-in-law, Ken (Tracie) Bowers Jr. and Jeff (Dawn) Bowers; six nephews, Brecken Bowers, Brody Bowers, Brooks Bowers, Jackson Pete, Alex Bell and Tytan Bell; and two nieces, Ruby Bowers and Emerson Pete.

A celebration of life will be held at OAKSTONE, 304 Commerce Parkway, Cottage Grove, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023.

Memorials may be made to the family to support his girls’ future education.

My favorite memory was going up north snowmobiling with Dan. It was my first time going up north compared to in Deerfield(trails suck!) but I was impressed on how Dan could navigate us for hours without looking at a map. Even when mine broke down we’d stop for 5 minutes and Dan would have it fixed. I’m glad I got to spend this time with you, was hoping for it to be a yearly tradition. Rest in peace uncle Dan. ❤️ -Jackson

Nicole I am soo incredibly sorry for your loss. Dan was a great guy and I will always remember him for his crazy shenanigans and infectious laugh. Even though he was my brother's friend, I counted him as a friend as well.
