Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE - Rose Ann Gehin, age 86, loving mother and grandmother, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. She was born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Pine Bluff, Wis., to parents, Jacob and Margaret (Coyle) Schonenberger.
Rose enjoyed a 35-year career at Rayovac in Madison, Wis., retiring in 2002. She was a very generous and kind woman who led a life of love, charity and compassion. Rose was very religious and prayed the Rosary and litany daily as well as attended Mass in person or watching it at home. She was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church and was actively involved in helping the church in many ways. She served as a eucharistic minister, planned and worked the yearly festival and also volunteered at St. Mary’s Adult Day Health Center.
She cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbors and was always the first one willing to lend a hand. The greatest joys in life for Rose were spending time with family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She loved having family together for the holidays and all of the baking and cooking that came with it. She was always up for a game of Euchre and would spend endless hours playing Goldfish, Old Maid and Slap Jack with her grandchildren. If there was a sports game on, Rose was sure to watch it and cheer them on, especially if it was a Packers or Badgers game.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Joseph; her brothers, John, Joe, Leo, Albert, Carl, Jake and Donald; and sister, Mary Kahl. She is survived by her loving family, JoAnn (Pete) Tranchita, Eileen (Brutus Holcomb) Stearns, and Tim (Teri) Gehin.
In addition to her children, Rose is survived by her adoring grandchildren, Josh (Jeannie) Stearns, Jamie (Karl) Wirag, Ashley Tranchita, Matt (Ashley) Tranchita, Brianna Stearns, Hilary (Tim) Berry, Logan Gehin, and Noah Gehin; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Avery, Lennon, Ryker, Gianna, Asher and Mila; and many other loving family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rose to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Farah Kahn, Unity Point Health, her many friends at Liberty Square, and Mark for always looking out for mom.
Your life with us was a blessing and you will be forever in our hearts. You are our guardian angel. Love you mom and grandma!
