Obituary

MADISON - Constance “Connie” Wedig, age 77, of Verona, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at UW Hospital with family by her side. She was born on May 19, 1946, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Maxine (Nelson) Moore.

After graduating from Madison’s Central High School, she stayed in Madison, where she met her first husband, and had three sons. They lived in Verona, and she soon found herself alone raising her young children. With the help of her family and friends and her incredible perseverance, she continued on. She worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, sometimes up to three in a day.

By a small miracle, she was introduced to Bernie by their mutual friends in the spring of 1982 and they were married on Oct. 16, 1982. They joined her three sons with his son and daughter together for a “Brady Bunch” family.

Connie kept herself busy throughout the years with her multiple businesses selling clothes, Tupperware, Mary Kay cosmetics, and Longaberger baskets. Connie also helped run Bernie Wedig’s Service Center doing bookwork, plowing snow and running the front of the business when needed. She also provided daycare for friends and continued to work cleaning houses, providing transportation, and doing shopping for her clients in need until the end. Her work ethic was unrivaled.

The things that made her the happiest were spending time with her family and friends, especially her great-granddaughter, Adeline Rose, and also enjoying her timeshare in Minocqua every June and September. Connie cherished visiting her mother and best friend, Maxine, daily and spending weeks with her while she wintered in Florida.

She was “Mom” or “Ma” to her own children and so many of her children’s friends. She was always there for family and friends. Her desire to help everyone was truly something to behold. She was known for being so easy to talk to and accepting of all. Her devotion to her sons and daughter can be compared to that of a mama bear to her cubs. You best not try to hurt one or the claws could come out.

The love that Bernie and Connie shared was deep and never more apparent than in these last few years. Bernie was by her side through all of the health problems. She could not have picked a better man for a husband, role model and father for her family.

Connie, Ma, Mom, Grandma or Dear, whatever family and friends would refer to her as, knew that all of us loved her and will miss her and look forward to seeing her again someday. We love you and hope you are finally at peace and next to your best friend/mother.

Connie is survived by her husband, Bernie; sister, Katherine Moore; sons, Troy (Kathleen), Chad (Kris) and James (Amanda) Worrall; daughter, Melissa (Blaine) Hubbuch; nieces, Chris Moore and Kim (Christopher) Meister; grandchildren, Autumn (Luke) Herr, Andrew, Madison and Abby; and great-grandchildren, Adeline Rose and Landon. She is also survived by a special cousin, Mike (Rose) Gullotti and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maxine (Nelson) Moore; brother, Jerome Moore; and son, Brandon Wedig.

Connie was a delightful woman. I met her through Bernie. I was a "frequent flyer" at Bernies Service Center, as well as a few mutual friends. She was a terrific lady and She and Bernie were a great pair. My condolences to you Bernie and your entire family. With deepest sympathy, Susie Crews.
