Obituary
MADISON - Carol Schlimgen, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Dec. 10, 2023, at Agrace Hospice in Janesville. She was born on June 25, 1951, to Thomas and Evelyn (Gunderson) Caucutt.
Carol attended Madison East High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Stephen Schlimgen, whom she married in 1976. They settled in Poynette, where they raised their two children, Laura and Jason.
Carol worked at American Family Insurance, from the age of 18, in a position of considerable responsibility as the main building receptionist. For many years, she organized the American Red Cross blood drive at the company and was later honored for her long dedication.
Carol was one of the sweetest and kindest people you could meet. She was very unselfish and extremely proud of being a mother. Although she was quiet and soft-spoken, she was very sociable with her wilder half, Steve. They enjoyed the outdoors together and went to many tropical destinations around the world.
Her favorite pastime was reading, and she loved the occasional dice game. She also had a great fondness for chocolate and was an avid collector of turtles. Turtle was her nickname, earned for her driving speed.
During her life, Carol fought a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, and towards the end of her life, bravely confronted breast cancer.
Carol is survived by her son, Jason (Kristine) Schlimgen; daughter, Laura (Ron Small) Lin; three grandsons, Ethan and Euan Lin, and Ryan Schlimgen; two granddaughters, Kylie and Kyndal Schlimgen; sister, Geraldine Essenburg; and brother, Dick Caucutt. She had an especially close relationship with her in-laws, including Kari and Dan, Chuck and Donna, and David and Kathy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; parents; sister, Jean Schlafer; and brothers, Jim and Bob Caucutt.
Carol will be laid to rest, along with her husband, in the Columbarium at Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville at a later date. Memorials may be made to the National MS Society or American Red Cross.
