COTTAGE GROVE- Marilyn G. Baumann (Jenni), age 87, passed away unexpectedly at St. Mary's Hospital on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023. She was born in Vermont Township on July 10, 1936, the daughter of Ida Jenni.
Marilyn graduated in 1954 from Madison East High School. She was married to Edwin Baumann on Nov. 28, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison. She met Ed at the Shuffle Inn on Park Street in Madison, where they exchanged glances. Marilyn then asked Ed "Do you see something you like" to which he responded "Yes". This was the beginning of their relationship that led to a 64-year marriage.
They were blessed with three children, Pamela, Scott, and Paul. Marilyn worked for many years at the State of Wisconsin - Lab of Hygiene. She enjoyed volunteering at Madison Olbrich Gardens and was an active member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Monona.
Marilyn and Ed cherished their time with family and friends. This included traveling to their cabin in Phillips, Wis. and snow birding in Orange Beach, Ala. Marilyn's many interests were bowling, golfing, shopping, and a good Pinot Grigio at the end of the day.
In 2009, Marilyn was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer. Thanks to the success of Dr. Anne Traynor and her team at the U.W. Carbone Cancer Center, Marilyn was given an additional 14 years with all of us.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Ed; children Pam Hahn (Rod), Scott (Deanne) Baumann, and Paul (Jodi) Baumann. Her grandchildren, Ryan (Shelbi), Theron (Rea), Hannah (Ben), Tenley (Ben), and Jordan; and her great-grandchildren, Casey and another due April 2024. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the U.W. Carbone Cancer Center or St. Stephens Lutheran Church Monona in Marilyn's name.
A funeral service will be held at ST. STEPHENS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Rd., Monona at noon Friday Dec. 1, 2023. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the start of service on Friday. A luncheon will immediately follow services at the church.
