Obituary

MADISON - Ina Penberthy, age 98, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Cedarhurst of Madison. She was born on Oct. 12, 1925, in the Town of Springfield, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Dixon) Gibson.


Ina married Donald Penberthy on Jan. 23, 1960. She worked for the Bank of Madison for 45 years. Following retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Olbrich Botanical Gardens and taking Elderhostel learning vacations. She also liked spending time at the Colonial Club in Sun Prairie, and walking with her friends at East Towne Mall. Above all else, she treasured being a wife and mother.


Ina is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Jo Olson) Penberthy; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; brother, Dan Gibson; and sisters, Iva Crawford and Edna Markstahler.

Respecting Ina's wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare.


The family wishes to thank Debra, Tannya and Derrion for all of their tireless care given to Ina.

Ina was a dear and caring friend here in Liberty Square Apartments. She faithfully delivered our newspapers and whenever met she greeted you with her wonderful smile. We missed her when she moved. My name is Tannya I was one of ina's caregiver. Taking care of Ina was more than a job .I loved Ina as a grandmother. Ina and I had a wonderful relationship. Everytime I walked in the door her smile would light up the whole room. Ina was loving, caring and gave the best hugs and we held hands often. I love you Ina and I will truly miss you❤️
