Obituary

MADISON - Diane Marie (Farley) Streber, age 78, passed away on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, in Madison, Wis. She was born on April 13, 1945, in Madison, the daughter of Charles Dunn and Edith Ann Farley.

Diane attended elementary school at St. Bernard Catholic School in Madison and graduated from St. Benedict’s High School in Madison. She was united in marriage to Thomas Stephen Streber on June 4, 1966, in Madison. Diane loved being a stay-at-home mom and spent many years doing this until she returned to work as the office manager of Herslofs Ocular Prosthetics, where she spent over 25 years, retiring in 2010.

Diane was an avid reader and instilled a love of reading in her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as an excellent cook. Many of her children's and grandchildren's fondest memories are of spending time in the kitchen, cooking with their Munga. Diane loved Hallmark movies, watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles daily. She was proud of her Irish heritage, Catholic faith and Catholic education. She was an extremely generous person and always preferred to give rather than to receive. She and her husband, Tom, loved to travel in their later years, with a fondness for Europe and Ireland in particular. She was especially proud of her children and her grandchildren and never tired of hearing about their accomplishments. She will also be remembered for her sharp mind, quick wit and endless knowledge.

Diane leaves behind many who loved her including her husband of 57 years, Thomas of Madison; children, Shannon Streber of Madison, Brent Streber (Noriko Shiomi) of Kyoto, Japan, Danielle Varnell (Robert) of Annapolis, Md., and Lindsay Streber (Scott Dahlhauser) of Madison; grandchildren, Isabella Cruz of Chicago, William, Anna and Maria Varnell, each of Annapolis, Md., and Grant and Tyler Dahlhauser, each of Madison; brothers, Thomas (Patti) Farley of Madison and Kevin Farley of Janesville, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Charles Farley of Madison.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.

I’m so lucky I got to visit with Diane just a few months ago. She shared some funny stories. Her quick witted humor could fill up a stadium with laughs and smiles. She was one of the first people that sent me a get well card a year ago with love and prayers. Her kindness knew no limits. She was so special and loved. Peace be with her family thru this period of grief. Love you all, suzie

Dear Streber Family, I was saddened to learn of the passing of your sweet Mother. I remember fondly many sleep overs at your house as a child. Her humor always made her so much fun to be around. Her pride in all her children was so evident. My deepest sympathies to you all. Karla (Knesting) Baierl

Diane and I were connected by our grandchildren, Will, Anna, and Maria. We didn’t see each other often because I live in Michigan and she lived in Wisconsin. It was only recently that Diane and I became pen pals. We wrote to each other, enjoying sending cards and notes. Being the same age, we understood each other. I’m so glad we reconnected. I will miss her. Sally Varnell

Sorry for your loss SHANNON if your family and yourself need anything, please let Jimbo and myself know!!! Your mother was a very sweet and kind the times I did come over to visit she was friendly and funny especially when she would start sharing memories of you. I only think she did it one time because we’re getting kind of ready for the class reunion. Think that was the 30! In a way it felt like we were back in high school instead of are 30th class reunion!!!
