Eric Gigstad

MADISON - Erik Gigstad, age 52, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023.  Born Oct. 14, 1971, he was a graduate of Ondossagon High School and continued his education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Erik is survived by his parents, Nelson and Sheryl of Mesa, Ariz.; his sister, Kristin Kosterman of Hudson, Wis.; nieces, Frances and Ruth Kosterman; other extended family members and friends.

Erik was a natural leader and served as the General Manager of the Howard Johnson Plaza Madison for 15 years.  During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the property provided temporary housing for high-risk individuals. His drive for helping people, sense of compassion, and tremendous amount of generosity touched the lives of many.   

Erik was passionate about college football and a devoted fan of the Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!) and the Wisconsin Badgers.  Many memories were made during tailgates, road trips, and in the stands, cheering on his Team with friends and family.  He was an avid golfer, and a member of the “Lazy Oaf” League for eight years, with a six handicap.

Erik was loved by many and will be remembered by the countless memories and endless one-liners. “Until we meet again.”

A Celebration of Life for Erik will be held at the LAZY OAF LOUNGE, 1617 N. Stoughton Road, Madison, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023.
