Scott Robert Mueller

MIDDLETON - Scott Robert Mueller, 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, after a long illness. Son of Willard F. and Shirley F. (Liesch) Mueller, he was born in Woodland, Calif., on Oct. 1, 1955. He was raised in Madison as well as Nashville and Washington DC for some time, while his father worked for the Kennedy-Johnson administration. Scott graduated from Madison West High School in 1973 and was united in marriage with Ann Pfotenhauer on June 14, 1985.

Scott attended the University of Wisconsin while working for his father in anti-trust law as a research analyst. He graduated with a degree in Rehabilitation Psychology and transitioned into work as a Special Education teacher with the Madison Metro School District: West High School, Huegel Elementary and Toki Middle School.  His education work continued as he began working as a Positive Behavior Coach at Jefferson Middle School. Throughout his work in education, Scott developed many life-long friendships that he treasured. He was known for his positive attitude, warm demeanor, ability to genuinely connect with his students impacting their lives, and (of course) his Nike shoes. In his spare time, Scott enjoyed working for the Madison Mallards baseball team, ultimately becoming a bartender behind home plate.

Scott and his father were devoted UW sports fans holding season tickets for basketball and football. Scott extended his passion to cheering on the Washington Commanders, Washington Capitals, Milwaukee Bucks, and Texas Rangers, whom he gladly cheered on to a World Series win this past season. Beyond being a spectator, Scott impressed everyone with his extensive knowledge of sports statistics, enriching the sports-watching experience for friends and family. His passion for sports wasn't just about victories but creating lasting connections and shared moments of joy with those around him.

A dedicated music lover, Scott attended over 30 Bruce Springsteen concerts, traveling nationwide. Each year he famously counted down to spring break in Lido Beach in Sarasota, Fla. It was his favorite place to vacation with his family, and he spent nearly 300 days there “relaxing” (aka memorably waking up early to claim the best chairs by the pool for his family).

Active in politics, Scott divided his time between campaigns, petitions, and staying informed. He was passionately involved in the community and organized the neighborhood petition to build the neighborhood grocery store in Middleton Hills. Scott's love for travel extended to big cities and national parks, creating cherished memories with his family. He also enjoyed simpler pleasures like hanging out with friends, trivia nights, golfing, bowling, reading books and the newspaper, attending movies (he even was an assistant manager at Middleton and Madison Twentieth Century Theaters early in his life!), and enjoying family pets. His well-rounded interests showcased a life lived to the fullest.

Scott was incredibly proud of his children, Nicole and Chris. He placed them, along with his wife, Ann, at the center of his universe. Somehow, he simultaneously did the same for his dear friends, too many to name names! Gratefully, his friends reciprocated the love.

Scott is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter, Nicole Kuno (Nick) of Middleton, Wis.; son, Chris (Vicky) of Denver, Colo., and DJ Fischer of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Penelope Ann Mueller and Sage Fritz Kuno; brother, Keith; and sister, Kay Mueller Emerson (David). He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Willard and Shirley Mueller.

A celebration of life will be held at MIDDLETON COMMUNITY CHURCH, 645 Schewe Road, Middleton, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, with the Rev. Zayna Thomley presiding. A continuation of his celebration of life will be held at the NITTY GRITTY, 1021 N. Gammon Road, Middleton, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. A visitation will be held at the church from 12 noon until the time of the service on Saturday. Please wear your favorite Badgers attire to the Nitty Gritty.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Middleton, Century Avenue and Agrace Hospice for their care of Scott in the past few months.
