Obituary

MADISON / AURORA, Ill. - Karlin Suzzette Bongard (née Miley), 74, of Aurora, Ill., passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026, after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 7, 1951, in Freeport, Ill., to Leroy and Anita Miley (née Morey).

Karlin graduated from Orangeville High School in 1969 and later attended Highland Community College. Her professional career led her to the travel industry, where she worked for many years.

In addition to her love of travel, Karlin was an avid science fiction fan, especially of programs such as “Dark Shadows” and “Ghost Hunters.” She was a devoted animal lover with a special affection for cats, enjoyed all kinds of music and comedy, and was a loyal Packers and Badgers fan.

She is survived by her four cousins; two stepdaughters; two sisters-in-law; five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; special friend, Jim Lowery; and dear aunt, Glenda Jo Morey, both of whom served as her caretakers and guardians during her illness. Many others considered Karlin a dear friend. Karlin was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; parents, Leroy and Anita; and brother-in-law, Michael.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Jennings Terrace nursing home in Aurora, Ill., for their compassionate care over the past five years, and to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their care and support in her final days.

A graveside service will be held at RESURRECTION CEMETERY, 2705 Regent St., Madison, at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
