Obituary

MADISON - Michael James Ashe passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis., on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pamela Ashe; his daughter, Christine (Matt) Butler; son, Timothy (Lisa) Ashe; grandchildren, Jayden and Alexis Ashe, Zac and Alli Spangler, and Bailey and Brett Butler; his brothers, Charles and Paul (Kris) Ashe; and his sister, Mary (Mike) McIlwee. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; his mother, Agnus; and his brother, Joe (Donna).


Mike married Pamela (Brown) Ashe in 1963 at St. Patrick’s Church in Madison and they had two children, Christine and Timothy. Following high school Mike worked for Wes Zulty Sporting Goods, before moving on to work 35 years at Oscar Mayer Foods in Madison, retiring in 2000. He then joined the staff at Supreme Health & Fitness working for his good friend, Joe, from 2002-2020.


Mike was an avid sports enthusiast. He spent some time coaching Monona Pee Wee football and was the equipment manager for Madison Mustangs football. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers with their close circle of friends. He enjoyed a good fish fry with Pam on Fridays, and always took pride in his yard and landscaping.


Please join us in celebrating and honoring the life of Mike. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, with a service to follow. If able, please wear Wisconsin Badgers attire as a tribute to Mike’s sports passion. A reception will immediately follow the service at the VFW Post 7591, 301 Cottage Grove Road, Madison.

Our hearts go out to Pam, Tim, Chris and their families in the loss of our friend Mike. He left us with fond memories of all the years of Badger football tailgating, home and away , followed by after game celebrating (win or lose) at AltnBachs! And oh the fun we had at the 94 Rose Bowl!
