Harry Richard Powell

MONONA - Harry R. “Dick” Powell, age 90, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023. He was born on Oct. 10, 1933, in Dodgeville, Wis., the son of Harry and Marie (Keska) Powell.

Dick graduated from Avoca High School in 1951. He married Nancy Richards on Oct. 25, 1958, in Spring Green at St. John’s. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He worked for Oscar Mayer as a meat cutter until his retirement in 1995.

Dick was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, softball, fishing, and camping. He was an also an avid Packers, Badgers, and Brewers fan. Dick loved traveling with his family throughout the states and staying in cabins up north every summer.

Dick is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Nancy; two daughters, Peggy (Gary) Southern and Pam (Pat Nee) Powell; six grandchildren, Tyler Southern, Ashley (Tyler Zimmerman) Southern, Kayla (Matt Gajeski) Dyer, Kyle Dyer, Karly (Ian) Wulff and Kelsey (Trent) Hale; four great-grandchildren, Riley Gajeski, Ethan Gajeski, Averie Popp-Dyer and Eli Wulff; two sisters, Mary (John) Franklin and Beth (Jake) Linscheid; and brother, Terry (Kris) Powell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and great-grandchild, Ellie Wulff.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Sunday. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, with military honors.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Dick's name to Agrace HospiceCare. A special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare for their care and support of Dick. In honor of Dick, please wear your favorite Wisconsin sports attire.
