Obituary
MADISON - Sidney R. “Sid” Waldorf was born on May 16, 1931, to Robert W. and Elizabeth M. (Reinke) Waldorf in Madison, Wis., the city where he was a life-long resident. Sid watched the city grow and saw both the good and the bad - mostly good. He believed in God, and split his membership between the Lutheran Church and the United Church of Christ. He passed away, Oct. 16, 2023, at the age of 92.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth; brother, Donald Waldorf; son, James Waldorf; and two wives, Pat and Katharine. He is survived by his "dream girl," wife, Joyce I. Waldorf; cousin, William "Bill” Reinke; nieces, Elizabeth “Lisa” (Dave) Mitchell and Vicki (Martin) Limmex; nephew, Gregg Waldorf; step-children, Natalie Killingstad (Tom Zieziul) and Marc Killingstad; and step daughter-in-law, Kris Helms and her two children, Kim (Jarett) Schoepp and Missy (Chris) Breunig.
Sid was very active in sports as a younger man, playing baseball, softball and tennis. He continued to play competitive tennis until he was 80 years old. He graduated from Madison Central High School where he lettered in tennis and volleyball. Sid was a member of the Madison Central Volleyball team that beat Wauwatosa East for the State Championship during the 1948-49 season. He was also on the City Tennis team that won the Wisconsin State title, and represented Wisconsin in the National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. He was an avid Packers, Brewers, UW Madison sports fan and loved playing euchre.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
Sid was a sweet, wonderful man and husband. He was loved and he will be sorely missed. He believed in treating others as he wanted to be treated, and not to prejudge.
