Obituary
MARSHALL - Eleanor Irene Shakstad, age 95, of Marshall, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at home. She was born on May 5, 1928, in Madison, the daughter of John and Amanda (Legge) Davis.
Eleanor attended East High School, graduating in 1947. She married Walter Shakstad on Sept. 30, 1961. She worked at Oscar Mayer and retired from Ohio Medical, where she made lifelong friendships with several of her coworkers. Eleanor was an award-winning artist and shared a passion for oil paintings with her husband. Together they painted over 200 portraits of people, families, pets, animals and landscapes. Eleanor loved any and all sports whether it was watching it, participating in it or talking about it and especially cheered for the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. For a few years, in her 20s, she played catcher in a traveling fast pitch softball league and was known as "Shorty" Davis.
Eleanor is survived by her many nieces and nephews, numerous grand-nieces and nephews and dozens of great-grand-nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Amanda; stepfather, Bernard Dugan; husband, Walter; brother, Leonard Davis; and three sisters, Frances Frydenlund, Margaret Matthews and Evelynn Dugan.
A very special thank you to Amy and her team of angel helpers, Julie, Nichole, Ariel and Gina for caring for Eleanor in her final years of life. They will always hold a special place in our family for the love and care they gave to our Eleanor, allowing her to stay at home, which is what she always wanted. Thank you also to Agrace HospiceCare for providing extra care and support in those final months.
A private family entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. A public celebration of life will be held in the clubhouse of EVERGREEN MOBILE HOME PARK, 100 Evergreen Blvd., Marshall, on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
