Kevin was a hero in life and an inspiration to all. He endured much exceeding all expectations and thrived under the loving care of his mother and his sister, Joan, who was his guardian for 30 years.
Kevin loved his wheelchair rides in the parks with his sister. He got to know several parks really well. Badger Prairie Park in Verona had the nice long hill they climbed with his favorite pal, Luna, the dog. When she got tired, she just sat on Kevin’s wheelchair’s footrest and watched everyone. He enjoyed the rides down his family’s country roads on the farm in Mauston to look at the bluffs; the rides (almost daily) from the Oregon Manor around the parks, the high school etc., and listening to his sister, Carol, on the telephone talking about her day with her kids and grandkids.
Kevin resided at many facilities for the handicapped. Thank you to all the residencies where Kevin lived. He lived at Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg for 13 years. He loved the staff there, especially Robin who he always had a big smile for; Sonrisas in Verona, Kathy, owner, CNAs, Carrie and Gail, who gave him gentle, loving care and his pal Luna, the dog, who sat by his wheelchair to make sure he was safe when someone knocked on the door. Luna would wait for the CNAs to get Kevin positioned in bed every night and then looked at staff to see if they were ready for him to lay next to Kevin. He was Kevin’s guardian and that was very comforting to Kevin. He also lived at Woodbridge in Watertown and the Oregon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center (almost 9 years), with many wonderful nurses- Tenneh, Mary, Deb, Kelly and Eileen, just to mention a few. A big thank you for taking such good care of Kevin. And their CNAs, especially Mary D., Brandon, Danielle and David. Thank you to Nichole for the awesome job she did with activities for Kevin. She was especially attentive to Kevin during his last days. Thank you to Mary Nawrocki for all the zoom calls to Kevin and Joan during the one-year lock down during Covid. Kevin didn’t understand that was his sister Joan on the computer and when they reopened the facility and he first saw his sister, Joan, in person, he had a tear in his eye. Thank you to Agrace HospiceCare for their care of Kevin in his last weeks. Their support was much appreciated. A big thank you to Kevin’s doctor, Dr. Michael Weber, whose thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. Kevin’s memory will forever be treasured for the simple joy he brought to our lives. We will miss him dearly.
