Obituary

MADISON - Tyrone “Ty” Larson passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023. He was born and raised on Lake Waubesa in Madison, Wis. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1991, where he played football; he graduated from UW-Platteville in 1995 with a B.S. in Reclamation. After graduation, he started as a temp with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and then climbed the ladder, becoming a Soil Conservationist, a District Conservationist, Area Conservationist, and then Assistant State Conservationist, working across Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Ty became the State Conservationist of Wisconsin in the summer of 2023. A career of service to conservation and rural America.

Ty’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, following many sports, traveling with family, and indulging in his favorite music. He often did these with family and friends, and loved introducing people to his favorite activities. Ty also loved bringing these experiences to those who had never done them, as well as the youth. He was involved with many different conservation and wildlife organizations. Ty earned his two-gallon pin from the Red Cross for blood donation. He was involved in so many organizations, too many to list, but gave his all to each and every one as if he was a shareholder or lifetime member to many.

Ty is survived by his wife, Laura; son, Alex; mother, Kathy Larson; father, Richard Larson; sister, Amanda Larson; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one uncle and one aunt.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12 noon on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will be private.

Since Ty was such a big Wisconsin Badgers fan, the family invites all guests to wear their Badgers gear to the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Groundswell Conservancy.

Ty’s family wishes to thank the New Glarus Fire Department and Green County Sheriff’s Department for their response and compassionate care.

Ty led by example. His caring and kindness, along with his dedication to his co-workers and customers was evident in all he did. He left a mark with his conservation legacy and left a mark on all those he interacted with. Sending sympathy and prayers to his family and I will never listen to Migos again without thinking of a great man that I called T-Rain.

I've had the privilege and honor to have known and worked with Ty for nearly the past 20 years in varying capacities. I always appreciated the way that Ty could bring common sense and creativity to the sometimes very cumbersome bureaucracy of Federal programs. His genuine nature and sincerity in his beliefs in conservation will be greatly missed. We've lost a true champion for the environment and a great friend. My sincere condolences to the entire Larson family.

I remember our first time meeting Ty and remember Laura ( my friend from Peace Corps) tell me that when he first met her he thought she was ,” a psycho bitch from hell”. How can anyone forget that! What an amazing man, husband, father, son, brother, friend, uncle, etc.; our hearts are very heavy. Sending prayers and much love. Hope and Steve Galens
