Obituary

Madison - Dennis Lee Wick, age 76, of Madison, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body dementia. He was born on March 2, 1947, in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., the son of Margaret (Anderson) Wick-Knuteson and Nels Wick.

He moved with his family to Madison in 1961 and graduated from Madison East High School. From an early age, Dennis suffered a lot of loss. Although he experienced these heartaches, he always maintained a positive outlook on life with a “glass half-full” mentality.

After 18 years together, he married Barb ONeil in 2011. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Dennis was a proud employee of Suttle-Straus, and dedicated 44 years of his life to his career and retired in October 2013.

Dennis loved to fish and hunt deer and turkey. He was also an avid bowler for decades. He loved photography and traveling. A wonderful father and step-father, his intelligence made him fun to talk to and a wonderful conversationalist. He was a true lover of dogs, but especially Boxers. He was involved with Rock Steady Boxing, a club for those with Parkinson's and a wonderful community of support and encouragement. A huge part of his life was sports: football, basketball, baseball, hockey, Dennis loved them all!

Dennis is survived by his wife Barb; daughters, Tina Wick and Amy (Josh Schafer) Wick; stepsons, Robert (Vicki) ONeil and Bryan (Adrian Ebert) ONeil; step-daughters, Kim (Randy Ziegler) ONeil Ziegler and Karyn (Tate Reynolds) ONeil; grandson, Deron Cribbs plus six other grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert "Bob" (Dorothy) Wick. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet (Gary) Hall; brothers, Donald Wick and Ronald Wick; and grandson, Garrett ONeil.

A funeral service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, and also from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

Tina and Amy would like to take a moment to honor Barb and share our deepest appreciation and respect for being such a strong advocate and exceptional caretaker for our dad for the last ten years.

We would like to share our endless gratitude to Meriter's Intermediate Care Team for their compassionate and supportive care, going above-and-beyond to care for Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Steady Boxing at the Bakke Athletic Club.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dennis. What a wonderful role model for generations of his offspring. May all your many wonderful memories of his life be of great comfort. This Bible verse recorded in John 5:28 has been of comfort to our family when experiencing a loss. It reads “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus Christ) voice and come out “. May God Jehovah give strength and his love to each of you.
