Obituary
ALBANY - Nora Smith-Kolda, age 68, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Mercy Hospital - Janesville. She was born on Aug. 31, 1955, in Casper, Wyo., the daughter of Erhard and Caroline (Welch) Vandre.
Nora graduated from Delavan Wisconsin School of the Deaf in 1974 and attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Nora was united in marriage to Ronald Kolda on Feb. 3, 2008, at Our Savior Deaf Lutheran Church. She was an active member of Monona Lutheran and Our Savior Deaf Lutheran Church.
Nora was a talented artist, whose favorite mediums were paints, colored pencils and black and whites. She loved horses. Nora enjoyed sewing, gardening, and canning, and was known for her sauerkraut. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Nora is survived by her husband, Ronald; two sons, Donovan (Dannielle) Smith and Justin (Courtney) Smith; grandchildren, Alison (Ben) Schwartz, Zachary Smith, Trevor Smith, Hunter Smith, Gauge Smith, Elliann Smith and Tobias Smith; sisters, Beth Vandre, Lynn (Royce) Bashaw, Sarah (Charlie) Parsch and Luann (Joe) Davila; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Benjamin Smith; parents; Erhard and Caroline; infant brother; and first husband, David Smith.
A memorial service will be held at MONONA EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4411 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, with Pastor Thomas Nowak presiding. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
