Obituary

MADISON - Judith Ann “Judy” Morgan, age 74, passed away on Aug. 25, 2024, after bravely living her final years with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Judy was born May 12, 1950, in Madison, Wis. She graduated from Middleton High School in 1968 and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UW-Lacrosse.

Judy’s loves included teaching and helping kids become the best they could be. Throughout her career as an elementary school teacher and then a library media director (retired in 2012), Judy’s goal was to expose her students to the widest variety of literature and subjects from around the world as possible. Judy also loved being a mom to her daughter, Carmel, and her dogs, Terra and Baylee, taking walks, cooking, crocheting afghans and scarves for friends and relatives, and always having music playing in the background.

She was very involved in her religion, the Baha’i Faith. Her goal, as the Baha’i Faith teaches, was to help others understand that we are all created equal, and to treat everyone with respect and without prejudice.

Judy was so thankful for all of her dear family and friends who traveled from near and far - Middleton, Madison, Wisconsin's North Woods to its southern border, and even Colorado - who helped make her days more enjoyable by visiting and playing games.

A big thanks to Visiting Angels and their wonderful in-home caregivers, and her entire Hospice team.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Milton “Bud” Bunnell and Ruth Eleanor Morgan; sister, Lois Potter; brother, Robert “Bob” Morgan; sister-in-law, Pat Morgan; and brother-in-law, Jim Potter.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Carmel Morgan-Weisberg; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Judy’s wish was for donations to be made to the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter. Donations may be made online at www.als.org/wisconsin.

I miss you Judy. You're being at Meadowridge awaiting my arrival along with Nancy is one of best memories. And, taking me to Alliant for my COVID booster a few days later. And entertaining Bops during the move in. Wish we'd had more time...in the next one. Prayers beneath your wings as you soar higher and higher.

I did not know cousin Judy well, but my mother did. She always spoke so highly of Judy and Carmel, and thoroughly enjoyed times spent together. What a beautiful tribute. And what a beautiful aim for us all to strive for - to treat everyone with respect and without prejudice. Thank you, Judy and Carmel, for making our world better for all. May you rest in peace, dear Judy. Sending love and big hugs to you, Carmel.

Judy was my first friend! We played together, ate rhubarb dipped in sugar, learned to twirl batons at the YMCA in Madison so we could both become majorettes for our high school marching band, went up north together and I was honored to have her accompany my clarinet for several state trials….. I will miss you my friend! I hope we lessened your pain with some silly chatter! Love you always! Terry Schlicht

Condolences to Judy's Family. I last saw and visited with Judy just before her retirement, when she led the library at Heritage Elementary School, here in Waunakee. She was extremely efficient and happy with her craft and seeing her was a joy. I hadn't seen her since high school, but connecting with her was a snap! RIP, Judy . . . Ya' did well!! Dan
