Obituary
LODI - Merwyn Arthur Hamilton, age 88, died on September 22, 2023, at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on October 18, 1934.
Merwyn grew up in Poynette and attended a one room schoolhouse in the town of Dekorra. He graduated from Poynette High School in 1952. On April 9, 1955, Merwyn was married to Dorein J. Johnson. They started their lives farming in the Rio area and moved to Lodi in 1958. After health problems forced him to quit farming, he eventually joined the General Telephone Company and was a telephone repairman in the Lodi area for many years until his retirement. Other then his family, his passions in life were deer hunting, woodworking, and snowmobiling. Snowmobiling in Yellowstone, northern Minnesota, and going by snowmobile from Lodi to Copper Harbor, MI and back, were his proud tales he often talked about. He was an active member of the Yellow Thunder Snowmobile Club for many years.
Merwyn is survived by his wife, Dorein; their children, Michael (Jacki) Hamilton, Marc (Debbie) Hamilton, Dianne Hamilton, and Randall (Jennifer Mackey) Hamilton; his brothers, George (Susan) Hamilton, and William (Karen) Hamilton; and his brother-in-law, Robert Lewis. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Jesse (Laura) Hamilton, Joshua (Katie) Hamilton, Jenna Hamilton, Ivy Hamilton, Samuel Hamilton, Maxwell Hamilton, Nathan (Becky) Morter, Holly Ternes, Andrew Morter, Alyssa (Carter) Jorgensen, Amanda (Jeff) Dye, Maggy Hamilton, Joe Glowacki, Nicole Glowacki, Samantha Motz; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, as well as many nephew, nieces and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmore and Mary Ann (Thompson) Hamilton; his sister, Patricia A. Walden; his daughter-in-law, Anna Hamilton; his in-laws, Al and Delores Bernander, and Donna Lewis.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON LODI FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 157 S. Main St., Lodi, Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5 pm to 7 pm.
