MADISON - Wylie Childres, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sept. 16, 2023, at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Jan. 17, 1952, in Coahoma, Miss., the son of L.C. Childress and Carrie (Thomas) Childress.
Wylie was a man of few words, but his love for his family, especially his grandchildren, spoke volumes. He cherished them with a special place in his heart, always willing to spend quality time and create lasting memories with them.
A true sports enthusiast, Wylie had a particular passion for tennis and was an avid fan of the talented Coco Gauff. He followed her career closely, finding inspiration in her achievements and dedication to the sport.
In his professional life, Wylie worked as a Carpet Installer for many years and most recently as a Meat Department Clerk. He was known for his integrity and honesty and was a man you could always trust because he was unwaveringly honest in his dealings.
Outside of his family and work, Wylie had a few hobbies that brought him joy. He was a competitive dart player, winning trophies and enjoying the thrill of competition. He also liked to listen to music, go fishing, play pool, and spend time lounging in his favorite chair, often while watching football, unsolved crime mysteries, court TV and a wide variety of other TV shows and movies.
Wylie leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and passion that will forever be cherished. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Wylie is survived by his significant other, Terri Frisch; daughters, Carese (Norman) Ehiorobo, Melissa (John) Smith and Kari Childres; grandchildren, Kean, Keilani and Laila Ehiorobo, Shanyah, Ja'Nasia, Jaelah, Malayah Smith and Aria Childres; four brothers, Jim (Yvonne) Thomas, Larry Childress, Willie Louis Childress and Rocky Childress; sister, Carolyn Childress Walker; brother-in-law, William Conda; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Conda; brother-in-law, Theodis Walker Sr.; and sister-in-law, Gloria Childress.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 1 p.m. on Friday. Sept. 29, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
