Obituary
MONONA - Harold Emile "Harry" Gehin, age 86, of Monona, Wis., passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Judy, and his granddaughter, Gabby, at his side at SSM Hospital in Madison, on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023. He was born in Belleville, Wis., to Josephine “Kalcheur” Gehin and Abel Gehin on Dec. 27, 1936.
Harry was born and raised on his family farm before and after graduating from Belleville High School. He was honored to join the U.S Army in 1961 before he started working at Ganser Roofing & Siding which gave him the motivation to start his own company, Gehin Roofing & Siding. In 1973, He met the love of his life, Judy, along with her daughter, Kandy, who both supported him through his business journey. Harry and Judy were married in Las Vegas on Feb. 23, 1985.
Harry lit up any room that he walked into and loved making conversation with new people. He had advice for everyone. He appreciated the Badgers, Packers, Bucks and Brewers but loved basketball the most. He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing, hunting, traveling, playing euchre with the boys in Belleville, taking trips up to the family cabin in Lake Holcombe and casino trips around the country. He loved spending time with his family and teasing everyone around him. This last year, he went on a Badger Honor Flight with his grandson, Matt, and was praised for his time for his service.
Harry is survived by his wife, Judy “Coakley” Gehin; daughter, Kandy (Andy) Riesen; grandchildren, Nykole Stronach, Matthew Morris (Tia Ranney), Ashlee Rear and Gabrielle (Damian) Howell; his great grandchildren, Austin, Anya, Tilly, Teagan, Koda, Caiden and Eli; sisters, Geraldine Nolden, Elaine Meier, Marline Funseth, Mary Jo (Donnie) Acker, Bernie (Kenny) Schnabel and Jerry (Jo Ann) Gehin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bernard, Edward and Vincent Gehin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 338 S. Harrison St., Belleville at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023. Harry will be buried near his parents and brothers at Frenchtown Cemetery following the Mass on Thursday.
A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023. The family invites anyone who wishes to join them at the GARVER LOUNGE, 3241 Garver Green, Madison, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for light refreshments.
