Obituary
MADISON - Roger Alan Zietlow, age 73, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at SSM Health St. Mary Hospital - Madison after battling COPD and Congestive Heart Failure for several years. He was born on Oct. 13, 1949, in Neenah, Wis., the son of Ed and Jean Zietlow.
Roger graduated from Neenah High School in 1968. He attended the UW-Madison for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1970, where he served as an airplane mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1976. Roger worked as a draftsman for Ray O Vac, Kraft foods and Spectrum Brands until retirement. While working at Dugan’s Cosmo Club he met his future wife, Sherry Nix. They were married on Sept. 20, 1980, and would have celebrated their 43 wedding anniversary this year.
Roger enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing. Over the years he received several bowling awards including two, 300 games. Roger liked watching the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and NASCAR. He loved spending time with his family and friends at their cabin in northern Wisconsin.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sherry; step daughter, Dana (Steve Rohde) McClelland; step nephew, Steven Nix and his mother, Margeaux Pankow; brother, John (Andrea) Zietlow; nephew, Scott Zietlow and his children, Matthew and Daniel; and niece, Michelle Zietlow. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Gary Nix; son-in-law, Steve McClelland; and niece-in-law, Tracy Zietlow.
Per Roger’s request there will not be a formal memorial service. A celebration of life will be held at EAGLE CREST BAR, 3710 County Road T, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to the American Lung Association in Roger’s name.
