Obituary
MADISON - Thomas Clarence Harrington, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Oak Park Place. He was born on February 14, 1944, in Madison, the son of Clarence and Albertha (Hurda) Harrington.
Tom graduated from Madison East High School with the class of 1963. Following high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. When he returned from service, he began working as a machinist at Gisholt Machine Company. Soon thereafter, he took a job with Ohio Medical (now known as GE Medical). He worked there for over 40 years before retiring.
Tom was united in marriage to Mollie (Drake) Harrington on December 14, 2000. They made their home on Lake Wisconsin which became a cherished family spot. Many pontoon rides leading to the sandbars and cookouts were enjoyed by friends and family.
Tom loved cars and was proud to recall the details of every car he ever owned. Whether he was talking about his black 1953 Chevy with “frenched in taillights”, his red 1965 mustang, his dad’s 1949 Ford pickup truck that he hand painted green, or his black 1995 Corvette, the memory lit up his blue eyes. In addition to cars, he enjoyed tinkering. Co-workers would ask him to fix a watch, a toaster, or a hair dryer. He could truly fix anything.
Tom is survived by his daughters, Kelly Heasty and Colleen (Samuel) Galaviz; grandchildren, Alex (Brysen Clark) Grotelueschen, Izuru (Holly Boss) Grotelueschen, Patrick Heasty and Henry Heasty; sister, Karen (Gary) Wentworth; and Mollie's children, Neil Kubina and Dean Kubina and their children, Ryan, Vincent and Daegan Kubina. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mollie; and brother, David (Anne) Harrington.
A celebration of life will be held at THIRSTY MOOSE, N3135 County Highway V, Poynette (on Lake Wisconsin), from 12 noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024.
We would like to share our sincere gratitude to Tom’s nurses, aids, and all caretakers that spent time with him. Sharing stories with family and friends was the highlight of Tom’s day. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
