Jensen, Marvin M. OREGON Marvin M. Jensen, age 74, died suddenly of natural causes on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. He was born on July 24, 1934, in Madison, to Morris and Mabel (Lyngstad) Jensen. Marv was united in marriage to Arlyle Steinhorst on Jan. 9, 1954. She preceded him in death in 1980. He married Carol Straavaldsen in 1981. Marv moved to Oregon in 1954 where he operated J and W Superette, along with his brother-in-law, Donn Wheeler. After selling this business, he worked at Pauls Supermarket and subsequently Bills Food Center. In 1980, he was appointed Secretary of the Valley of Madison Scottish Rite Bodies, retiring in 1999. He served his community in many ways including: Oregon Volunteer Fire Department for more than 25 years, Air National Guard, Oregon Village Board, and as treasurer for Dane County Supervisor Lyman Anderson. Marv was a member of Oregon Masonic Lodge No. 151 F and AM, Order of Eastern Star No. 49, Scottish Rite, Zor Shrine, Rose Croix, Lakeland Shrine, Four Lakes Daylight Lodge, Commandery. He was coroneted 33rd degree in 1985 and participated in degree teams traveling the state. Marv was also involved with many other masonic organizations. He had a zest for living, loved the Badgers and Packers, along with all sports. Marv thoroughly enjoyed a good game of cribbage, sheepshead and euchre. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; son, Jack (Diane) of Oregon; daughters, Jill (Randy Thompson) Fosdick of Monona, and Jane (John) Seelman of Sturgeon Bay; stepdaughter, Valerie Straavaldsen of Oregon; grandchildren, Angela (Josh) Fassl, Lindsy Jensen and Zachariah, Jacob, Johnna and Samuel Seelman; great-grandson, Jackson Richard Fassl; sister, Marcine (Ron) Nelson; three brothers-in-law, Donn Wheeler, Mike (Lorraine) Steinhorst and Wayne (Jan) Steinhorst; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and associates. Marv was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Virginia Wheeler. Visitation will be at OREGON MASONIC LODGE, 201 Park St., Oregon, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. A public Masonic Memorial Service and Rose and Salt Ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the OREGON MASONIC LODGE. A family burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Masonic Learning Center, 301 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI 53703.
